The Council of the Ordre national du Québec is responsible for advising the Premier of Québec on new appointments to the Ordre. Each year, it assesses the candidacies resulting from a public call for nominations.
The Council ensures the integrity, image and reputation of the Ordre. With assistance from the Secretariat, it oversees the Ordre's growth in keeping with the values of excellence, creativity and solidarity which underlie its influence and strength. Only members of the Ordre of three years' standing or more are eligible to be members of the Council.
The Council has nine members who must
Each year, one third of the Council's members are elected for a three-year term by the members of the Ordre. Every two years, the members of the Council elect a president and vice-president. The president has a significant position in the order of precedence used at public ceremonies of the Québec state.
